The cotton pieces were a labour of love. 6 months of learning how to embroider with this technique in Guatemala.
I chose rappers because in a society where celebrity and wealth rule, rappers sit at the top of the tree. I depict a scoring system to explore why we worship and idolize these people, but with opaque and strange words, because I didn’t want something clear and objective but something based on feeling and faith.
Tapestry and embroidery are most suitable for serious and sacred imagery but there is also a greater resonance in using cotton, given the history of cotton picking.

CARPETS
These are handmade pieces, built on a tufting frame I have made in my studio. Tufting is physically very demanding, and these pieces take a very long time. There is a limit physically on how many of these a person can make a year.
